Laser acupuncture
Laser acupuncture is another option for patients who are afraid of needles. It has been practiced widely throughout Europe and Asia and is becoming more popular all over the United States. There are researches that show good results in treating patients with laser acupuncture. Laser beams which are used in acupuncture are very safe and can be applied even in infants and young children. Most lasers used in acupuncture are known as low-level lasers or “cold lasers,” (because they don’t produce heat.). Studies show that low-level lasers can help regenerate cells, decrease pain, reduce inflammation & improve circulation. But perhaps the greatest advantage of laser acupuncture is that it’s completely painless.
At Eastside Gentle Acupuncture we use class IIIa laser light from a laser pen that resembles a small flashlight to deliver an imperceptible dose of thermal energy to the acupuncture points. Research has shown laser acupuncture to be as effective as needles. Traditionally, acupuncture involves inserting very thin needles into the body, but laser acupuncture is an effective alternative. Using laser acupuncture we are still able to move “Qi” and blood in the body, providing excellent results without needles.
During a laser treatment a particular point is stimulated for between 15-30 seconds. It’s fast and easy. Seconds in comparison to needle retention time, which may be 20 to 45 minutes.
